How to Boost Your Mood: Try a Mini Mood Makeover

How to Boost Your Mood: Try a Mini Mood Makeover

One simple way to boost your mood is to do one small thing that makes you feel good today. It doesn't have to be productive, impressive, or life-changing. Clean your car. Get a workout in. Do your lashes. Learn a TikTok dance. The whole point of a Mood Makeover is simple: feel good NOW.

I got my lashes done and suddenly I feel like I have my entire life together. βοΈπŸ˜‚

Is everything on my to-do list done?

Irrelevant.

Do my lashes look good?

YES.

And this is exactly what my Mood Makeover series is about.

Things that make you feel good.

And apparently sometimes make you look good too. πŸ’…

What is a Mood Makeover?

A Mood Makeover is one small thing you intentionally do because you know it'll make you feel better, happier, lighter, or more like yourself.

That's it.

We're not reinventing our entire lives every Monday morning.

We're not starting a 75-step morning routine.

We're not deciding that happiness requires a new planner, a color-coded calendar, a six-month goal and a completely different personality.

Sometimes the Mood Makeover is cleaning all the random crap out of your car.

Sometimes it's getting outside.

Sometimes it's a workout that leaves you sweaty and proud of yourself.

Today?

Mini lash makeover.

Tomorrow?

I might learn a TikTok dance. πŸ˜‚

The activity isn't really the point. How you feel afterward is.

How can you boost your mood quickly?

Pick one thing you can realistically do today that usually leaves you feeling better afterward, then give yourself permission to do it.

I think this is where we tend to overcomplicate feeling good.

We turn it into another assignment.

“I need to get back on track.”

“I need a whole self-care day.”

“I need to completely clean the house.”

“I need to get consistent again.”

No, ma'am.

What could make you feel 10% better today?

Start there.

Maybe it's washing your hair.

Maybe it's putting on an outfit you love even though you're not doing anything special.

Maybe it's 20 minutes at the gym.

Maybe it's calling the friend who always makes you laugh.

Maybe it's getting your lashes done and leaving convinced that you've somehow also fixed your finances, organized your closet and become a woman who remembers to move the laundry to the dryer immediately. πŸ˜‚

Don't overcomplicate it.

Why do little things make such a difference?

Small mood boosters can interrupt a blah day and give you something positive to enjoy without requiring a complete lifestyle overhaul.

For me, there's something about doing one little thing for myself that changes the energy of the day.

It doesn't mean every problem disappears.

It's more like...

Ohhhh. There she is. ⭐️

Sometimes I need movement.

Sometimes I need to get something OFF my mental list that's been annoying me for three weeks.

And sometimes I need Eunice to make my lashes look fabulous.

All valid Mood Makeovers.

Does self-care have to be productive?

No. Something can be worth doing simply because you enjoy it, even if it doesn't accomplish anything measurable or productive.

THIS ONE.

I love a workout. I love checking something off my list. I love doing something that makes Future Kim's life easier.

But your Mood Makeover does not need to pass a productivity test.

You don't have to earn the right to feel good.

If doing your nails makes you happy, do your nails.

If sitting outside with a coffee for 20 minutes sounds incredible, there's your Mood Makeover.

If you've secretly wanted to learn some ridiculous TikTok dance?

PLEASE.

And send it to me. πŸ˜‚

Fun counts.

What are some easy Mood Makeover ideas?

Easy Mood Makeovers include movement, getting ready, cleaning one annoying space, going outside, doing something fun, or booking a beauty treatment.

Need inspiration? Steal one of mine:

  • Clean out your car

  • Do a workout you actually enjoy

  • Go for a walk outside

  • Wash and style your hair

  • Put on an outfit that makes you feel GOOD

  • Get your lashes done

  • Paint your nails

  • Take an everything shower

  • Clean one tiny area that's driving you crazy

  • Buy yourself flowers

  • Put your phone away and read

  • Make your favorite coffee

  • Turn music on ridiculously loud

  • Call someone who makes you laugh

  • Learn the TikTok dance πŸ˜‚

  • Go to bed EARLY

  • Do something you've been putting off

  • Do something completely pointless because it's fun

The question isn't “What should I be doing?”

Ask:

“What would make me feel good today?”

Your answer might surprise you.

My latest Mood Makeover: lashes πŸ’…

Today's Mood Makeover was a fresh set of lashes, AKA approximately 60 minutes between me and feeling like a functioning adult again.

Thank you, Eunice from Eye Candy Lash SRQ. πŸ’‹

Lash queen of Sarasota!!

There is something hilarious about a tiny beauty appointment making me walk out like:

Okay. I've got this.

Nothing else changed.

Same life.

Same responsibilities.

Same laundry waiting for me.

Better lashes.

Completely different woman. πŸ˜‚

And THAT is why this counts.

How do I choose my Mood Makeover for today?

Ask yourself what would make you feel noticeably better in the next few hours, then choose the smallest realistic version of it.

Not next month.

Not after you lose weight.

Not when work slows down.

Not once everyone else has everything they need.

Today.

What sounds good?

Maybe you need something physical and want to move your body.

Maybe your surroundings are making you crazy and you need to clean something.

Maybe you haven't felt like yourself lately and want to get dressed and actually DO your hair.

Maybe you're exhausted and your Mood Makeover is canceling something and going to bed.

Maybe you need fun.

There are no points for choosing the hardest option.

The Mood Makeover rule: don't overcomplicate it

Your Mood Makeover doesn't need to fix your life. It only needs to give you one reason to feel good today.

That's the rule I'm keeping for this entire series.

Small things.

Big things.

Silly things.

Sweaty things.

Beauty things.

Things that make absolutely no sense to anyone else but make YOU ridiculously happy.

They all count.

Because you deserve to feel good today.

Not eventually.

Today. πŸ‘πŸΌ

And if fresh lashes make you feel like you have your life together?

Book the lashes. πŸ’…πŸ˜‚

Mood Makeover FAQ

What is a quick way to improve your mood?

Choose one small activity you already know makes you feel better, such as walking, exercising, getting outside, tidying a space, or doing something fun.

What can I do when I'm having a blah day?

Don't try to fix the whole day. Pick one small change: move your body, change your environment, get ready, finish one nagging task, or do something purely for fun.

Does a Mood Makeover have to involve beauty?

No. A Mood Makeover can be anything that makes you feel better. Cleaning your car counts just as much as getting your lashes or nails done.

What if I don't have time for self-care?

Make it smaller. A Mood Makeover could take ten minutes. The goal isn't an elaborate routine; it's intentionally doing one thing that helps you feel good.

What should my Mood Makeover be today?

Ask yourself: “What would make me feel 10% better today?” Pick the first realistic answer and do that.

Now tell me yours.
